22nd June, 2010 (Tuesday) The Salvation Army Launches Appeal for Southern China Floods Relief Torrential downspours are battering the Southern China for the last week. Nine provinces including Jianxi, Guangxi, Fujian and Hunan are being affected. Death toll reported from the affected areas has risen to 170, with more than 25 millions victims. Since 13th June, 10 provinces in the Mainland including Fujian, Guangxi, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Chongqing are affected by heavy rainfalls, bringing about severe flooding and causing extensive damage to buildings, roads and communication facilities. The Salvation Army is sending relief officials to work with The Government of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan Province, to conduct an on-site need assessment. Salvation Army emergency relief supplies including food and medicine will soon be delivered to the survivors. The Salvation Army is committed to providing emergency assistance to the survivors. The Army will work with the Mainland relief authority to help the victims ride out this devastation.
