20th April, 2010 (Tuesday) Salvation Army Hong Kong Officer Joins Qinghai Earthquake Relief After the powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake on 14th April (Wednesday), Salvation Army personnel in Beijing arrived Xining on 16th April (Friday) to arrange the delivery of emergency supplies to Yushu, the hardest-hit area. Yesterday (19th April) Captain Jeremy Lam from Hong Kong met Salvation Army China Development Department staff working in Xining. They packed the emergency supplies and prepared to go to the affected area by truck. ¡@ As Salvation Army personnel have kept close contact with The Qinghai Provincial Department of Civil Affairs and other relief organisations once they arrived Xining, they knew that relief materials, like instant noodle, were against the eating habit of Tibetan people and could not be fully utilised in Yushu. Therefore, The Salvation Army bought two tonnes of barley flour for the earthquake survivors. More urgently needed supplies including warm clothes and medicines will also be transported to Yushu. The Salvation Army will conduct on-site assessment in order to address the needs of the survivors in the highlands. ¡@ As of today, 20th April 2010, The Salvation Army raised about HK$2.7 million in Hong Kong. ¡@ Please Help Us to Help Those Who are Suffering Donations in support of this response are needed.
